The First Ramadan and Eid as an expat was at the stage of self-pity and made me homesick. But now after 8 years when my kids grow up and we are 5 members at home,
I enjoy blissful Ramadan. with arts and crafts for Eid and Ramadan. But living as an ex-pat is a little hard thing itself when we have zero Muslim community around us.Especially for children its hard to understand the difference between religious rituals. Here the non-Muslims celebrate their rituals with much excitement and community involvement. In this condition, it’s very important for us to make our rituals more attractive and charming with its soul. That’s why. This year The theme of our Ramadan is about a Verse of a Quran which is In Surah Baqra 183.
Because Some non-Muslims think it’s very cruel to live hungry for the whole day. And Muslim children feel pity for them-self. So we will explain and follow these three Conceptions of Fasting...
Fast was also Fardh in other religions like Hinduism and Christianity. But they forget their prayers and added new things in their rituals.
We can’t leave Fast in any condition. We can delay it if we are Sick or traveling.
The purpose of Ramadan is increasing our level of Taqwaa.
In the light of this Verse we will plan our all activities covering two things.
1.Ramadan eid decorations and planners. 2. Ibada activities to get Taqwa
Ramadan/Eid decorations and planners. Ramadan preparations Start from the month of Shawwal when we start to clean home and prayer mats. To follow Sunnah It is the best thing to practice more fasts in the month of Shawwal..
My kids start to countdown the Ramadhan and excited about the happiness of the daily iftar table.
Here I will describe some things we will do in Ramadan.
1.Wishing Crads and Self evaluation cards for nonemuslim fellow.
Alhamdulillah we have made planned to give Ramadan wishes, self-evaluation cards and a pack of some dates to class fellows of elder one who is turning 9yrs this Ramadan. In this activity, he will share a short introduction/Ramadan story in his class. Then he will give wish card to his class fellow with a self-evaluation card in which every student will ask a question (how am I?) to his parents, friends, and people around him. And get good behavior starts and hearts from others.
Our first and Welcome Ramadan activity is Making of a prayer corner.
In a less messy room, we choose a corner and decorate it to offer our prayers and Ibadah here.
In this corner, we have prayer mats, Table of Quran and Seerah books, Tasbeeh. I also added some sticky notes Color/pencils and some other activity materials in this corner to do some activities(described down)We made this corner full with fragrance and charming lights or candle. A video of prayer corner
3.Shopping;-
All necessary Grocery and new summer clothes shopping should be done before Ramadan. So we will buy clothes to wear in Jummah prayers and Eid Before Ramadan. 4.Wishing cards. During Ramadan, kids will make some eid wishing or Iftar invitation cards which they could do best. It depends on them whatever they will use to decorate and write on them.
5.Iftar preparations
Every member of the family will volunteer in preparation of after. Of Course, the kids are too young to practice Fast, but they do Iftar. It’s the best time where we could learn to eat Sunnah foods, manners of eating and welcome every food.
This Ramadhan I’m planning to make eid gift packs. Living in abroad we don’t have other kids surroundings to give these gift packs. But This year we would make these packs for their schoolfellows. Because kids feel a little complex when they can’t take part in school celebrations and the rituals of their friends. So I think our kids should feel proud of their rituals. And doing this will also raise awareness in their friends that they also have their religious rituals. Here is the picture of the gifts I gave them last year. This year I’m planning to give something else to my kids and adding some candies and chocolate bars in the gift packs of other children.
Ibada activities to get Taqwa1.Alhamad Garden.
Every day of Ramadan is a blessed month. So we have this beautiful garden with our name tags. We will add a flower daily to say Alhamdulillah for the blessing of the day.
2.Wall hangers
We prepared wall hangers with the verses like.
Allah is watching. AL-BASEER(For Kitchen)
Forgive others Al-Ghafoor(kids room)
Allah is listening Al-same (prayer corner)
Prayer is better than sleep (Bedroom)
Ifter and Sehri Supplications (wall of the dining table)
My elder one is already doing Hifz. So, this year I planned my self to memorize at least one Surah in this month. And younger kids will also take part in memorizing. For this, I think listening of audio is the best way for kids. I have apps of Quran recitation which they will listen and learn.
Stories About the Ramadhan of Sahaba 4.Daily Ayat e Tadabbur. Daora e Quran is my favorite thing to do in Ramadan. It’s also Sunnah that Prophets Muhammad SAW did Dora e Quran every night of Ramadan with Jibraeel A.S. For kids its better I will choose any Ayat for them and do tadabbur on it.
5.Charity box
Like last year we will have a charity box in which we will add some money to donate kids.
6.A Ramadhan schedule/Planner
This year we have a planner with us in which we have tick option for
Prayer,..A hand made Ramadan countdown and Prayer countdown. Big sticker for Fast and small stickers for daily stickers. Recitation,
Daily some verses age according and Dora-e-Quran for kids a video of9 minuts daily and 3 hrs daily for elders.Good Deeds..For kids we make good deeds tree. Which will get fruits of good deeds in stickers.
Tasbeeh... Ziker is complspry thing to do. We have made these short tasbeehat from beeds of broken tasbeehat. Our one bucket is for Tasbeehat. Second jaar of countdown beeds and second to keep counted beeds.
7.Bonding with Grandparents and other relatives.
Every Ramadan and Eid we all miss our relatives and country rituals and homesick. I miss my parents and my Husband so as. So to make strong bonding and attach kids with our bondings, we will try to make more live calls to get connect with them.
Eid room decorations
Last week of Eid is good to start Eid decorations.
Last year we did it with balloons, stars, Crescents and fresh flowers. Let’s see what we added more.
In’sha Allah. This is My Planner and pre and in Ramadan preparations. Hope everyone will get a blessed Ramadan.
Allahumma ballighnaRamadhana.

Table of Contents
Names of the 3 birds mentioned in the Quran.
There are three birds that are mentioned in Quran. 1 Crow in the story of Adam A.S Hoope (HUDHUD) in the story of King SOLOMON and Ababeel in the story of the Elephants. here we are going to see facts of hope (hud hud) with the story of Solomon.
King Solomon and Hud Hud
The project is based on these simple and easy steps like our first story.
Storytelling
Finding the birds and Animals mentioned in that story.
Facts of the mentioned birds HUDHUD(Hoopoe).
Crafts of the story
Benefits of the HudHud and other birds.
Verses of the Quran about the benefits of birds.
Lessons and important points of the story.
1. The story of King Sulemon A.S and hud hud(Read the story in Urdu)
The story of King Solomon is very much interesting and attractive as it has many magical lyrics and is divided into many small parts. In this story Ants, Fish, Hud Hud, Crow, and Jins are mentioned.
The story of Prophet Solomon (Sulaiman in Arabic) and Hud-hud (Hoopoe bird) is mentioned in the Quran in Surah Al-Naml (Chapter 27, verses 20-28).
According to the story, Prophet Solomon was a righteous and just king who ruled over a vast kingdom with the help of Allah. One day, he noticed that Hud-hud, one of the birds in his kingdom, was missing. Prophet Solomon asked his courtiers about Hud-hud’s whereabouts, but no one knew where the bird had gone.
Then, Hud-hud returned to Prophet Solomon with some news. The bird had discovered a kingdom ruled by a queen who was worshipped by her people instead of Allah. Prophet Solomon was curious and ordered the bird to lead his army to that kingdom to investigate.
When they arrived, Prophet Solomon saw that the queen and her people were indeed worshipping idols instead of Allah. Prophet Solomon invited the queen to worship Allah instead and warned her that if she did not abandon her false beliefs, her kingdom would be destroyed by Allah.
The queen realized the truth and submitted to Allah. Prophet Solomon then asked Hud-hud why he had not brought the news of this kingdom to him before, to which the bird replied that it had traveled far and wide to bring the news to Prophet Solomon.
Prophet Solomon was pleased with the bird’s loyalty and intelligence and thanked Allah for the guidance. The story of Prophet Solomon and Hud-hud serves as a lesson about the importance of seeking knowledge and guidance from Allah, as well as the importance of remaining steadfast in one’s beliefs and worship of Allah.
2. Bird of the Story HOOPOE (HUDHUD).
Hoopoe or hud hud is the bird on which our project was going ahead. The bird of this story is HUDHUD which has beautiful feathers like the crown of a king at his head and a curved beak. It is revealed in the Surat al-Namal Verse no 20 that:-
‘Why do I not see the Hud Hud.’
We point out the Verses about the story from the Quran.
3. Facts about Hud Hud
The word Hoopoe is their call ‘Hoo-poo’ which they repeat 4/5 times.
Hud has a long beak to dig the ground to find insects and to crop trees to make nests.
With beautiful and attractive colors they look and
Fly like a butterfly.
They sing nice songs
They have two human habits.1 Male presents the insect to the female to eat as they know the women’s nature.2. Male feed the chicks for some days and later female.
They can see deep into the ground, so kings in the old ages used to bring them with them on travels to find underground water.
As I mentioned above this story is consists of many short parts and has more things to work on. So we made many crafts for the story. So we decided to make the nest of the hud which is a unique and different nest from all other birds. We tried to make the nest in many ways. Kids were trying to make the same nest as Hud Hud by making the whole in a small log. We got three logs and nails and hammers to drag a hole. All three kids tried for two days but it was a hard thing so they ended up with a paper craft(milk pack)
5. Benefits of Hud Hud.
Like other animals, insects, and birds’ HudHud'(Hoopoe) are also created for the benefit of all humans kinds.
Muslim children Must know that Hud Hud is not a useless bird. It has its importance as a bird. We could learn:-
Emotional attachment and love and care with family.
Importance of observing every thing.Importance of knowledge and wisdom.
Loyalty towards our master.
They add beauty to nature.
Hard work to make beautiful homes.
The bird Hud Hud is a source of information. It is a humble creation of Allah.
6. Verses of the Quran about birds and benefits.
Allah created this nature for mankind so we could get benefits from the birds and other things around us with a little wisdom.
Follow these (verses)Ayats for reference of benefits and facts of animals, birds, and Insects.
Voice, size, and color difference. (We learn that everyone has their own individual personality and looks beautiful in differences.). (alQuran, Al-Anam-142-46)
Motivations for thinking and pondering on nature. (AL-Baqara,164)
Ideas and tricks.
7. Discussion:- Important points of the story.
Keen insight on wrong things happening around us and trying to overcome these wrong things like Hud Hud is a supper skill for kids. King Suleman was a great king and a noble messenger of Allah. He got all the power Knowledge and wisdom from Allah after this supplication.
You must introduce this bird to your kids. Bring them close to the beauty of nature. Quran and nature is the best source of connecting kids with Allah. Did you enjoy this journey of Our second story of Three birds three stories of the Quran, Read these article
Healthy breakfast Ideas with Sunnah Meal/ ingredients.
Last week we had a school meeting. The agenda was full of tummy breakfast and healthy meal awareness.
There It was a shocking comment from the teachers of nursery classes. They were telling the ratio of kids coming with a complete breakfast is 2:20 and with a light breakfast is 3/5 out of 20, and the rest of the students are coming without breakfast. And they summed up that sugar and white floor is lowering the hunger and making them weak inside. That’s why children especially girls get weaker and complain about the ache in the joints and bones. I was surprised. I know many children don’t like to eat in the morning. So many parents seem to be grateful if they are at least taking a cup of milk. So there was a campaign started in the school and the target was sending children in the school with a full tummy breakfast. Alhamdulillah, my all children have a habit to take a complete and healthy breakfast every morning.so I’m not much worry about them. But I felt Proud of being Muslim that we have Sunnah food in our life when teachers recommended ‘Honey’ instead of Jams and other topping ingredients. Many Mothers are in need a good recommendation and motivation of healthy breakfast for the little ones. That’s why I decided to write an article to share some tips and ideas about a complete nutritional breakfast every morning.
Tip 1.
Breakfast is the first meal of the day. We need more energy and a pleasant mood to begin a worthful day. This is the time when our body and stomach could absorb heavy meals. Make a healthy and rich meal menu for breakfast
Here is a set of breakfast ingredients.
A brown toast topped with honey and butter, half egg and the half cup of milk.
A brown Rusk with cheese or butter and yogurt.
A Bowl wheat porridge with and a spoon of honey and 3dates.
A Brown chapatti bread made in olive oil and a cup of yogurt.
A glass of fresh juices and with the role of brown bread filled with cream and chicken.
Mouselli with milk/yogurt and Banana.
Black chocolate with milk and bread.
Tip 2.
After a long sleep, children don’t want to eat. So give them a break of 1:30 to 2 hrs between awakening and breakfast.
Tip 3.
Motivate them to eat healthy foods in the morning. Mostly girls like to look pretty and glowing and boys want to be more strong and healthy. So encourage them to eat a more and more healthy thing in the morning so that could achieve their target.
Tip 4.
Change the menu often. So that they do not feed up with the same things every morning.
Tip 5.
Sit and do your breakfast with them and show your interest in eating more in the morning.
Tip 6.
At the start, children will not be ready to eat so much in the morning. slowly and steadily they will get used to it. But you live constant and force them to take breakfast. In some days, they will change their behavior.
Tip 7.
Provide a relaxed and calm atmosphere at the time of Breakfast. Don’t show the hurries, otherwise, the children will make the reason to avoid breakfast. In the end here is a list of Sunnah foods that are rich nutritional.
Dates
Olive/olive oil
Milk
Brown bread
Honey.
Dry fruits.
Meat
Apple Cider.
Pomegranate.
Fig
Watermelon.
Cucumber.
Barley
Water.
Grapes
In holidays when the children stay at home before noon try to add more sunnah foods in their diet.
Note:- The foods that are not good for children are enlisted.
Fast foods
White floor,
Suger.
Brown and fatty Chocolates
Candies,
Tetra pack juices and soft drinks.
Broiler meats and eggs.
Jams and artificial coloring items.
Foods are the fuel of our body. Do not spoil the habits of children. The rest of the life of children depends on what they eat At a young age. So do not compromise with it. Good health promises a productive energetic and strong body.
What is the favorite breakfast of your children? Share your tips and ideas with us. Here is a motivational video for kids of Fruits mentioned in the Quran with Playdough. I hope your kids will enjoy it.
Here is my video of the making of fruits mentioned in the Quran with play dough. Kids love to play with playdough and make these things.
Purpose of the Unit study of birds mentioned in the Quran
In this session, our focus and purpose are polishing the creativity of Muslim children and adding some pieces of information about nature with a complete reference to the Quran. So that children take more interest in reading and understanding the Holy Book Quran Kareem and do Tafakurr.
Crow, Hoopoe, and Ababeels are the birds mentioned in the Quran. All these birds are mentioned in different stories and in different ways. But all these birds have some astonishing facts. We did this unit study in a totally different way. Three children were part of this study with the moms. Every activity was hands-on and fieldwork-based. let’s see the reality and facts of the birds one by one.
We will study the bird crow mentioned in the Quran in these ways.
Storytelling
Bird of this story.
Photography.
Facts of the Crow.
Crafting.
Benefits of the birds and crow.
Moral lesson and Prayer of forgiveness.
Storytelling
1. Crow is mentioned in the Quran in the story of Adam A.S and his Sons Habeel & Qabeel. We will start with storytelling.
Before starting to tell stories keep in mind
Answer the unrelative questions of children.
Use a good Tone of Storytelling.
Body language helps to express feelings and make good imaginaries
Our first story is about the First Khalifa of Allah SAW (Prophet of Allah SWT )Adam and His Sons. The bird mentioned in our first story is A CROW. This story is revealed in Surat Al-meida in Quran. We read the story of Adam and His son and found out the moral lesson of the story. The lesson of the story of Adam is given in these two pictures.
After reading the story, we had a discussion, about why Adam was sent to this world. What Allah has advised them? And the lesson we learned from the story is that we should obey Allah, not Iblees. W all are bounded by some forbidden and shytan is our enemy. If we follow him, he will mislead us and we will occur sins like the sons of Adam A.S. Some facts from the story of Adam are added to the pictures.
Creativity, Art/Craft for the story
We have this fingerpainted forbidden tree for this purpose. we had many crafts in this story like the forbidden tree of Adam. A.S, First Kabah Made by Adam A.S and other craftworks.
Moral lesson of the story
The story is about two brothers. One brother was loyal and honest and loved his brother, He is obedient to his father, and he submitted to Allah. But the other was misguided by shaitan. He hated and was jealous of his brother. He was disrespectful of his father and not submitted to Allah. Finally following the footsteps of shytan he killed his own brother of His jealousy. Then he was regretful for not knowing what to do with the dead body, instead of being regretful to kill his brother. Allah helped him and a crow was there to teach him how to bury dead bodies.
The bird in the Story
After telling the story a question was asked. Which birds taught Qabeel how to hide the dead body of Habeel into the soil? The Crow Yes it was the crow. The crow was mentioned and we entered into the world of crow. Now we have to find out the facts about the birds.
Photography
We were looking to capture a crow or a nest of crows. Mostly in our area crows could be found hardly. But Luckily, we found a nest of a crew downstairs. That was close to the roof so we used a ladder to capture a close view of that nest. Honestly speaking the photograph is not much pretty, but I’m proud to uncover it as that was made by my little kids. We don’t have any pic of crows not of eggs, but it’s okay as kids are familiar enough with crows.
Facts of Crow.
We searched for the facts of the crows on youtube, google, and different books and social talks. We gathered these interesting facts about crows after watching the videos and also from this story.
Crow has 45 species.
The lush of a special kind of crow is Halal.
Crow makes a rough nest with some grass and tree sticks.
It is a very clever and outsmarting Bird so it could solve his problems at the spot.
Crows are emotional birds and express their feelings. They don’t leave their Fellows even when they are dead.
The crows have a strong memory.
The Crows are fearless birds and can steal food from others even from humans.
Crows eat everything even the dirt.
These facts unveil the truth of crow. For me, the new thing was that crow is Halal and Muslims could eat it.
It’s time to make the nests of crows. We got three ideas for the nests. Woods and husk nest, molding clay nest, and play dough nest. So as we are going to do work on the three birds mentioned in Quran, we will make them all one by one. Crow nest will be of woods and husk. (For all the pictures visit my Pinterest profile.) Every child participated in this session excitedly. As it was again some fieldwork. They went outside to get woods and husks to make a nest. The Video of making a nest is down.

Stories with facts, crafts, verses of Quran and Interesting activities for children.
Stories in Qur’an are a big source of teaching moral lessons, universal rules, and
facts of nature to kids. I personally use to read for them these stories to raise their interest in reading and understanding the meanings of Qur’an for strong bonding.
Qur’an Is for every age and every aspect of life. So for children, it has many interesting things. It has all science, nature, and fiction topics for children.
This summer we decided to read these stories in a different way. And the outputs are really good.
We started our journey of learning Quran from the Ayat of the Quran about birds and animals and their benefits and relation with human beings.
In surat-al-Baqara, Allah SWA says:-
…….and dispersing therein every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and the clouds controlled between the heaven and the earth are signs for a people who use reason. (164)
Then we had a general look at the names of animals, birds, and insects mentioned in the Quran. And the list was very long.
So we made a list of them in three categories, that is Birds, animals, and Insects.. I will add the names of all of them in a related category.
Here I would like to recommend you to get ready for unexpected questions from the children. They asked many minds unlocking questions to me like;-
If the horse is also mentioned in the Quran?
If my name is also in the Quran?
Where is a list of things I will get in Heaven?
Honestly, children are more clever than elders.
Three Birds Three Stories.
Children were interested in Birds. So we started from the stories of the birds, mentioned in the Quran. In the Quran Word ‘bird’ is mentioned 5 times and the word ‘birds’ occurs 13 times.
Three birds are mentioned with their names in the Quran.
In the Quran, We find many Ayaats about benefits and general
information about the birds.
Allah SWT says about the Bird:-
“Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allah. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.”(Al-Nahal-79)
And Here are many other verses which invite us to look at birds and ponder the psychology of birds. We summed up all the verses of the Quran in a list and started our journey.
First of all, we made an outline of our field of storytelling sessions. We worked on this project in these steps.
Photography of some birds/nests in nature
Reading/listening stories
Marking the bird from the story
Numbering the benefits of Birds
Facts about that bird
The moral lessons of the Story (discussion)
Learning verses or just Dua(supplication) of the prophet.
Our First step was the photography of some birds and their nests from nature. That day was full of excitement. Nature, free time to spend outside and then finding birds and taking photos of them was the totally amazing experience of learning without getting bored. Here are some photos of birds and nests, my young learners took.
Day2. Discussion About birds and their living style.
The next day we had a healthy discussion about the birds and their nests. How they make nests, what do they eat and how they fly. Life. The cycle of birds is also an interesting aspect of stories of the birds. We also discussed the airplane which flies like birds. Children were also wishing that They may also fly. And then I told them they may fly like a bird in a pursuit when they will grow up. It was the time when I was able to make them realize that Humans are the best creature of Allah SWT in this universe.
Day3. Benefits of the Birds.
Making the list of the benefits of the birds was also incredible work… We found these benefits;-`
They give us food
They eat insects so our world is saved from a huge quantity of insects.
They are also a natural source of spreading the seeds of some fruits and herbs from one to another place.
They also make our earth beautiful.
In the last, every bird has individual facts which will be described in three birds and their stories.
And then we entered into our next doorstep. And this level was labelling the birds mentioned in the Quran with the name. We found three Birds mentioned in the Quran named:-
Crow (Surat al Maida. In the story of Adam.A.S)
Swallow(Ababeel) ( Surat Al-Feel. In the story of Elephants)
Hud (Hoopoe) (Surat AL-Namal. In the story of Hazra Suleman A.S)
Day4. Story telling
This was the day we started our story session. We Started our 1st story that was the Story of Hz Adam A.S. Children are listening to these stories almost from the lap, so I tried to involve them in these stories. some important points and the morals of the stories were discussed in our storytelling session. Our focus was on the bird mentioned in That story to keep them interested in this story.
Day5. Facts of the Bird of each story.
Facts of that bird. Then we entered into the world of those birds and watched some videos about the facts of that bird. Children were happy because they got new information about the birds.
Now children have much knowledge and information. So in the end, some creative work and craftwork was done. video of easy nest craft is added now down.
You can also do it. If someone is much interest to get a collection of Ayats about birds and animals then leave a comment.
Soon I will publish the stories and individual work on every story and bird.
Now it’s your turn to let me know how much are you interested in getting my next story in the Quran with creative work and
information?
Please leave a comment if I forget to add something.

When we talk about Math lessons for pre-schoolers don’t mean to give a high burden curriculum books or a tight schedule to teach. Maths and numbers could not be put into the brain by dumping or pumping.
Some children love to play with numbers but other gets confused when its time to figure out values and numbers. And in the end, they start to hate the numbers. All feelings about math start to develop in early childhood education when a child starts learning. A little mislead could dig them into number phobia and smart help could make them math genius.
When one starts to teach a kid he/she needs to make them familiarize with the things around in a fun and natural atmosphere. And later using educational resources things would be more easy to make them understand the rules and problems of math.
Here I’m going to share with you how I started to teach my children as pre-schoolers. I’m sure this will help your child to love with numbers and patterns instead of creating a feeling of hate for maths.

As a mom of three and a teacher, I’m feeling happy to share my experience of start of early childhood education program which was a great and this method worked for my children.
When a parent blessed with a baby they also bless with love, care and worry about a child, A child gets all the emotional, physical and social needs from his parent. Parents do their best to raise the child as a successful and complete person. Education would be their first priority when a child grows and of course, everyone tries to do their best to fulfil this duty. But dear parents/ guardians if you are accepting the responsibility to educate your child and decided do it pre-schooling yourself at home. You must have to know that an early childhood education program is such a big and challenging task. Teaching and transforming knowledge with perfect method and educate your child like a complete personality is not as much easy task as everyone could do it. It is a very sensitive department. And it also needs a proper guide and full training.
As Parents spend much time closer to their child so they already know the nature of their child very well. That’s why with a proper guideline and a little training about early childhood education programs, they could get a high level of good performance.
Here I will go through intro how to start an early childhood education program at home. There are three basic learning resources in this age.
Learning Methods
The child will learn what he/she will listen to.
The child will learn and do what he/she will Watch or experience.
The child will learn with little speaking/conversation and exploring different things.
Using these three resources we try to get connect our child towards learning. We will start from things of their interest. Some kids listen more and others would have exploring and curious nature. How to teach?
All you need to do is Understand the mood and nature of your child. Then use a good tone of voice and an interesting way of communication with your child. From a young age of 3 to 7, every child is a self-learner. So you should be here to support him in learning and providing him/her with good resources to learn, not to stop them from self-learning and following your footsteps. Being a tricky person all you need to do is say yes when they want to ask you some thing. Be there with them to give answers. Nature is full of learning resources . Don’t miss any opportunity to teach them about things, sizes, colours explore world.
My Personal experience of Teaching
My kids always learned much in a playground or park but also in the kitchen, drawing room and even in the washroom. Yes in the wash room the goes into a different world. So, I taught colours to them using fresh fruits and vegetable. I had used my fingers, clothes of My Husband and children to teach them sizes. Same like that they counted the beans in the kitchen and flowers in the Garden and Birds in the air and doors of the room which also kept them busy for a long hour. Now I will give you some tips to make and use free resources.
Tips to make free resources
You can draw big flower and ask them to count petals and colour. Than ask them to write numbers or trace for them to write.
You can make origami boats, fish, aeroplanes, photo frames and many other things of different shapes, sizes, colours. This will also help them to name colours, and learn sizes.
Use a paper/cardboard to make puzzel cards again of different colours and sizes so that child can match colours, sizes Numbers and pattern.
Water bottles/lids, popsicle sticks, disposable cups also help them to Learn.
Give you child some newspapers and a child friendly scissor and ask them to cut just fruits or flowers or favourite foods and past on a paper. This will help them in motor skills increase their memory. They would also be able to understand difference between different things.

Once there was a cow in a verdant pasture filled with the pleasant fragrance of Spring. brooks of blue and sweat water flow there with pride. Around was surrounded by countless trees of pomegranate and pipal. And the sounds of birds and cool breezes fill the air with love. Then a Goat appeared at the bank of that brook from somewhere who was also browsing. She stopped browsing for a while and looked around. She found a cow was also standing there. Just to have some nice talk with the cow little goat paid regards (Salaam) and she started talking in a very tactful tone. Goat:- Most respected madam Cow! How are you doing Cow:- Not very well. Then she began to complain about, many things. Cow:- I’m surprised and cursing at the people who are not as good as ALLAH had honoured them. We Poor are very helpless and we do not have any power. Misfortune always treats badly poor like us. Man is very cruel. One should never do any favors or help to a man. Because no one gets fruits of his help and nice dealing with man. Then she said:- If milk of me decreases’ he mourn me. When I turn into old age or loses me energy he sold me out. It is me who is feeding his children and they get energy and grown up very well because of my milk. And in return for my best, I get evil from him. After hearing all these complaints the goad disagreed with the cow. She said:- I know the truth is always bitter and no one likes to hear it. But I will say what is right. All these green grasses, trees, shadows are because of a man. It is he because of whom we are living in pleasure and happiness. So Tell me if freedom is better or his bondage? You know we have fear of many animals. And we always seek protection from the wilderness. So It is just because of his kindness we are living happily and safely. If you acknowledge the comforts he provides us you will never complain about him. The cow was ashamed of his complaints and felt sorry. He reviewed the little talk of goat about good and bad and accepted that hence goat has a small body but her words are very powerful and convincing. This is Monday morning and I’m sitting in front of my laptop after dropping my kids at the school. I’m in the condition where I’m forced to think that if a bundle of worksheets and written homework on the weekends are like a child labour in the schools.
Don’t mind if you are doing this as a teacher or parent of a home-schooled I’m explaining here why I’m thinking in this way. He returned from school with 9 worksheets and one notebook to be written on weekend.
After Friday prayer they reached home and after some snacks, it was evening(about 1.5 hr left to be night) and asked them to go outside for some week relaxation and friends gathering. As I also feel a little freedom of no work like all working days. So all the homework was pending for the next two off days. At morning after breakfast, all the friends of them were waiting outside so they went and Done many healthy activities and enjoyed much. Noon was the time to study and in the evening they left for the mosque. And Sunday morning again Was the time to play outside as Baba was also at home, they played more than Saturday. When at the study time they sit to do homework younger one who is in the grade one told me, ‘mom I have many worksheets to be done today’.
As already prepared children and sharp kids in writing and reading with other activities, my two kids do all of their homework themselves. I just sit for a little time for check and balance. I was shocked with that a lot of worksheets. When Baba told them that they are going to the Fun park, for him it was a time to write more faster. But for so young child of grade one, it was impossible to write all those in one sitting with having an excitement of going outside. So some were done and later after taking bath and eating food they were out And returned much tired. They went to sleep and Sunday ended up. He could not complete all the work. And in this weekend routine, I didn’t mention another thing like reading of Quran, and religious oral activities I used to teach them at home. So it was Monday morning he woke up at 6, wrote all three worksheets and one notebook in about 35 minutes and then ready for school. Got a big thumbs up from Baba and mama for achieving the goal.
It was a good experience for him and me as well. But I’m in the feel of a little guilt. As a mother, a teacher and as a writer, I feel it is another kind of child labour. I think children should have no work to write for weekends. As they are writing for whole 5 working days at school and in the home as well. Weekend means weekend. It should be just for fun, doing oral and practical activities, to spend more time with family and friends, watching some educational and children fun videos, and outdoor games. My boy was ambitious, keen and prepared but what about the other kids who just started to grip a pencil and just started writing. I want to hear from all of you,
Do you agree with me that a lot of writing work and worksheets are like child labour?
Do you also think weekends should be weekends for other activities not for writing and boring study schedule?
Do you think children learn more with playing, group activities, the family gets to gathers and fun activities?
Do you also think writing and reading is the best way to teach kids?
Are you agree with me, reading and writing could prepare kids just for sitting in front of desks, instead of giving life skills.
Leave your comments about the good or bad experience about worksheets. It’s a time to give a big no to child labour in the study.
